What is chai tea? 🌿
Chai tea is tea which is traditionally prepared by boiling black tea together with aromatic herbs and spices. Chai originates in India but has grown in popularity worldwide thanks to its amazing flavour and associated health benefits.
There are many variations of Chai tea, including Chai lattes and iced lattes. This recipe uses Matcha green tea in place of black tea, paired with the traditional spices and plant-based milk. It's a great way to enjoy a gluten-free, vegan friendly Chai latte that's packed with goodness.
How to make a frothy latte 😍
We recommend using an electric milk frother to create a Matcha layer which is light and foamy. You will need to use the cold setting and froth until all ingredients are combined into a bubbly foam.
You can also use a handheld milk frother for this recipe, but as these work best with warm milk it may be better to serve hot rather than over ice. You'll get the same great taste just minus the layered effect.
MAGIC MATCHA CHAI ICED LATTE RECIPE
HEALTHY, VEGAN & DAIRY-FREE
INGREDIENTS:
Chai Tea Layer
- Pinch ground ginger
- Pinch ground cloves
- Pinch ground nutmeg
- 2 cardamom pods
- 5ml maple syrup
Matcha Layer
- 100ml oat milk
- 4g Magic Matcha
- 5ml maple syrup
- Handful of ice
METHOD:
- Add the chai tea ingredients to 200ml hot water and allow to brew for at least 10 minutes, before straining and allowing to cool
- Add the matcha layer ingredients to an electric milk frother and use the cold setting to froth until fluffy and light
- Pour the frothed matcha mixture over ice, then when the foam separates, top with chai tea
- Garnish with a sprinkle of ground nutmeg or Magic Matcha to serve
